Dear Beloved Christ the King community,
What are you doing this Friday? I invite you to join me at our Christ the King Festival whose theme this year is: Breaking Bread : A Feast of Flavor and Community.
When I was interviewing with the call committee in the process of becoming your new senior pastor, I asked each person to tell me about their favorite event or gathering at Crist, the King, and several of them talked about the Festival and in particular the sociables.
I remember being confused, because I had never heard the word sociables before. And so I asked the good Lutheran question, “What is this?” I learned that sociables are different types of gatherings where Christ the king members get together and have fun. They range from dance lessons to dinners in peoples homes to shopping excursions. I heard many many stories from members that said the sociables were how they initially got to know other congregation members and grow their roots deeper in our spiritual home.
So, I again invite you if you are able to come this Friday to festival. There will be yummy food at the event and lots of sociables to choose from that will be offered over the next many months. Perhaps you will discover not only a new favorite hobby, but more so deep in your relationship with a member or two or three who you did not know has similar interests.
Of course, there will also be wonderful items for you to consider bringing into your home or bidding on as gifts. All of the funds raised go towards supporting our ministry partners: Lutherhill, CCSC, MAM, St. James Family Life Center, Freewheels, and Interfaith Ministries.
If you are not able to attend Festival this year, I invite you to hold the event, the organizers, and all of these ministries in prayer.
Grace and peace, and even more, hope,
Pastor Jennifer
