The Martin Luther King, Jr., Black Heritage Society Parade is Monday, January 20, 2025, and you are invited to join the fun! Bishop Mike Rinehart– and a bunch of energetic Lutherans of all ages from across the synod– will walk with the bands, VIPs, dance ensembles, and other groups through the cheering crowds in downtown Houston to support our black bothers and sisters, celebrate our community and our diversity, and honor the legacy of Dr. King! The banner we walk behind proclaims “Lutherans are here!”
We will gather as a group (WEATHER PENDING) on Allen Parkway at Crosby St. about 9 am and the parade starts at 10 am; we should be at the end of the route before 12 Noon. No fees, no dress code; wear your congregational t-shirt, a BlackLivesMatter shirt, or whatever is handy. And there is free parking– near the start and finish of the parade– at the Boys and Girls Club of Greater Houston on Crosby. (Note: Allen Parkway will be closed so you will need to enter Crosby St. from W. Dallas to park there).
There will also be a Young Adult Meet-up at the Martin Luther King Jr. Parade. To participate, please reach out to Pr. Sergio Rodriguez
