Gretchen and I first joined Christ the King in 1968 while I was a grad student at Rice. Our first Sunday was Pastor Peterman’s first Sunday also. We left in 1970 when I took employment elsewhere but returned in 1976 when I took a job in Houston. We have been members since then.
During the 70s through the 90s we were quite active in the congregation. I was Council VP. Gretchen was Council secretary. I taught Sunday School, helped with Luther League, was on various committees both in the congregation and with the Synod including mentoring several interns we had during this time, served as assisting minister for several years, and also served as an usher. Currently we serve as LEMs and prepare meals for members in need as part of the Congregational Care Team.
Christ the King has been an integral part of our lives for the past 50+ years. Our three sons were all confirmed here. Two were married here. We celebrated our 50th anniversary here. Most of our grandchildren were baptized here. Recently, the son of one granddaughter was baptized here and another granddaughter married here.
Christ the King is at a critical juncture right now. I hope that my experience and perspective would be an asset in assisting in building up Christ the King Church.
There is a place for you here.
We are the church that shares a living, daring confidence in God’s grace. Liberated by our faith, we embrace you as a whole person--questions, complexities and all. Join us as we do God’s work in Christ’s name for the life of the world.
