AMMPARO

AMMPARO, which stands for Accompanying Migrants with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities, is a whole-church commitment of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America to accompany migrant families. Its name comes from the Spanish word amparo, meaning protection or refuge, and from Psalm 46:1, “God is our refuge and strength.”

Born out of the urgent needs of children fleeing violence, poverty, environmental displacement, and lack of opportunity in Central America, AMMPARO works to uphold basic human rights, address the root causes of migration, and improve the treatment of migrants in transit.

Their ministry focuses on protecting children and families, advocating for just and humane policies, and engaging the church in collaborative action with companions, affiliates, and partners. AMMPARO stands alongside vulnerable communities, affirming the dignity and humanity of every child of God.

Help raise funds to give Thanksgiving Baskets to St. James families

Thanksgiving is on the horizon, and we are once again planning to fund Thanksgiving baskets for the community that St. James serves. We will provide 25-30 families with baskets that will include turkey, yams, apples, corn, green beans and other sides. Baskets cost around $80/basket.

We need to raise $2,500 to support this annual endeavor. You can easily donate online by selecting AMMPARO and designating “Thanksgiving baskets” in the memo. Please help keep this caring tradition alive that began in November 2022!
