Dear beloved people of Christ the King,

The 2024 storm season began early this year with the May Derecho. From the evening of May 16, 2024, to midday May 17, 2024, a Derecho struck the Gulf Coast from Southeast Texas to Florida, causing widespread damage, particularly in the city of Houston and surrounding metropolitan area. The storm caused incredible damage, 7 lives were lost, and many suffered due to the power of the storm. Now we have entered official hurricane season with our second named storm, Beryl causing additional damage where repairs had not even been made yet. There were over 2 million without power and that number is still over half of that at the time of the writing of this plea. Many in our congregation, our neighbors and our entire staff have suffered some type of loss including physical damage and power outages. Where is the good news and how do we show up and care for one another.  How do we walk the walk and show our faith through our works?

One of our congregation members, Lisa Miller, suffered extreme damage to her home in the May Derecho. She has been tirelessly trying to repair the damage herself with the help of her neighbors. Friends, the damage is great. It continues to get worse due to the continued storms and now with Hurricane Beryl hitting, it has added to the damage and delays. She has completed the reroofing of the house and is now working to insulate and sheetrock the inside and in some rooms rebuilding from the studs. There is much more damage than she can get repaired alone.

Lisa needs our help both physically and financially, and of course, prayerfully. We would like to be able to support her and build up a fund to help members as needed. We have set a goal to raise $10,000 to support Lisa as she rebuilds her home. She does have property insurance but has a $15,000 wind deductible she must meet first. How can we help? We are asking for donations to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund. With these generous donations we will be able to care for Lisa and other members of our community as needs arise.
