Dear faithful people of Christ the King Lutheran Church,
As of this morning, Thursday, July 17, 2025, work has begun on the major exterior painting, caulking, and repair to the exterior of our Rice Village buildings. The contractor is Juarez Painting and, weather permitting, the entire project will be completed in four to five weeks. The Property Maintenance Committee will provide regular progress reports in our regular Friday email and, if the situation requires, will also inform you of any issues of which you should be aware.
Today and for the next week, work is being done on the south side of our building, facing our south, off-Greenbriar, parking lot. The workers began by power-washing the entire south exterior – the side most exposed to the elements – and will continue with caulking of windows, and repair, if necessary, and repainting of exposed wood. Today’s work required us to move the cars parked in that parking lot – we did not know that until today – and may require further temporary closing of that lot on workdays until that side of the building is completed. This will not affect Saturday or Sunday parking for our worship liturgies.
Thanks to your generous support of our second Renew, Refresh, and Repair fund appeal, this project along with the installation of metal doors to replace the weather-damaged wooden doors from the narthex to the Memorial Garden and Columbarium, are scheduled for completion this summer and will be re-dedicated this fall. The total cost of these two projects is $90,000 and, when accomplished, will complete all of the major work to address twenty years of deferred exterior maintenance issues on our Rice Village campus which our committee identified, received bids for, and recommended to the congregation council for approval and contracting over the past four years. This, in turn, will enable our committee, the council, and the congregation to schedule regular maintenance projects to avoid long-term and expensive projects going forward. Again, thank you for your generous and timely support!
All of us on the Property Maintenance Committee have recommended, and the council has approved, these projects, but Gaelyn Lesher and Amandus Derr share oversight of these this summer. Please feel free to direct any comments and questions to them.
Please pray with us that this work will be pleasing to God and will strengthen our congregation’s ministry and mission in the name of Jesus.
In Christ,
