Fresh Start Backpacks project update:

Thanks to your overwhelming generosity, CTK member and Eagle Scout candidate, Peter Bryant, was able to complete 325 fully stocked school backpacks for immigrant and refugee youth new to the Houston area.  The backpacks were distributed between CTK mission partner, St James Family Life Center, the YMCA, and Church World Services for distribution to K-12 students entering schools throughout the metro area.

These backpacks will make a huge impact in the lives of these young students and help them get a good start in their new schools.  Thank you for your generosity!

Peter Bryant

Many thanks to everyone who has contributed to fellow CTK member Peter Bryant’s Eagle Scout project, Fresh Start Backpacks! This project aims to collect 300 backpacks filled with new school supplies and donate them to CTK and AMMPARO ministry partner, St. James Family Life Center. SJFC works closely with the YMCA and Church World Services to equip immigrant and refugee students with the tools needed for success at school.

How you can help:

1. Pick up some extra school supplies and donate any of the listed items in person at our CTK collection on Rally Day, September 10. Items may be distributed to any K-12 student so please avoid very juvenile cartoon characters or designs:

● School Backpack (Solid color, No string Bags)

● 3 Ring Binder

● College-Ruled Notebook Paper

● Colored Pencils

● Rulers (12”, plastic or wood)

● Highlighters

● Graph Paper

● Pack of Index Cards

● Erasers

● Pencil Pouch

2. Contribute materials via the Fresh Start Backpacks Amazon Wishlist. All materials purchased via the Amazon wish list will be shipped directly to our collection site.

3. Contribute funds by check (payable to Troop 11) or at the Fresh Start Backpacks GoFundMe site. All donated funds will be used to purchase backpacks or fill in missing supplies when it is time to assemble the packs.

Final CTK collection date will be September 10th. These students have already overcome many difficulties, please help make their fresh start in their new Houston-area school a little easier by contributing today!
