Dear Christ the King Community,
As I prepare for my final Sunday as your Director of Congregational Engagement, I am grateful for the texts from our lectionary that I will be preaching on during worship Sunday morning. . I will also be present on Saturday evening to worship and contemplate the gifts of ministry that we have shared. The question about what truly endures echoes in my mind and on my heart. It’s a question that weaves through all of the Sunday readings—from the ancient wisdom of Ecclesiastes to the parable Jesus tells in Luke, from the psalmist’s lament to Paul’s exhortation in Colossians. And it’s a question that feels especially poignant as I prepare to step into a new call and say goodbye—for now—to this beloved community.
This quote from Mary Oliver has shown us a lot recently in my work. It poignantly asks: “Tell me, what is it you plan to do with your one wild and precious life?” Serving with and alongside you all at Christ the King has been one of the greatest honors of my ministry. Daily I am reminded of the power of presence, the gift of listening, and the beauty of community. You have shown my family and me love, grace, and understanding. And for that, I say thank you.
As many of you know, I will be joining the Synod staff as the Bishop’s Associate for Candidacy and Education. I’ll be working with candidates for ministry, first call leaders, and lay leaders across our synod. So yes—you’ll still see me around! But for now, I go with a heart full of gratitude. I will carry you with me—not just in memory, but in mission. Let us continue to seek the things that are above, together, even as we walk different paths.
In Peace,
Deacon Aimee Elles
