Grace and peace be with you all dear friends in this fall season.
We have had many wonderful opportunities this past fall to gather for fellowship, worship, service, and advocacy. One of our goals for this past year is to develop and create new intergenerational opportunities for our children, youth, and adults to come together. But why do we have intergenerational opportunities? Why is it important for both children and adults to gather?
Intergenerational ministry seeks to bring all generations together as equal, valued participants in the divine relationship of the triune God, being formed in our participation with God and one another to be the body of Christ and embody the fullness of the gospel. When we practice worship, fellowship, service, and ministry that includes all ages, we are living more fully into what it means to be the body of Christ.
To be clear, intergenerational ministry is more than just including kids and youth in our gatherings. The prefix “inter” implies relationships that are valued among all generations, where we include the voices of all ages, in relationship, with God and one another. Additionally, “intergenerational” is more than a new church trend or strategy for reviving the Church. “Intergenerational” is a way of being, a pattern exemplified throughout Scripture, the way God designed the church to be—all ages participating together in the life of the triune God.
And so, I invite all our children, youth, parents, and adults to our intergenerational events that are coming up this month. Come and experience camp style worship, dinner, and serve in or butterfly garden together at our Kids and Kin on Saturday, October 19. Come hear the Godly Play Story of Martin Luther on Sunday, October 27 at 9:45 a.m. Come to participate or volunteer to help with our community Trunk or Treat event on Sunday, October 27 at 4:00 p.m. Save the date for our Las Posadas event on Sunday, December 15. You will have a blast!
Take Care Friends,
Deacon Ben Remmert
