Greetings Christ the King community,

Thank you for your support this month for AMMPARO, our May Mission Partner, with your prayers, your presence and your gifts. The word “amparo” in Spanish means the protection of a living creature from suffering or damage.  By supporting the important work of St. James Lutheran Family Life Center through the AMMPARO committee, we are truly living out the Gospel and loving one another as Jesus loves us.

The St. James Lutheran Family Life Center provides social, educational, nutritional, spiritual, and economic service and support in communities in and around Houston. Christ the King’s collaboration has not gone unnoticed. At this past week’s Synod Assembly, Robert Rivera, Director of St. James Lutheran Family Life Center, gave a wonderful shout out to Christ the King for our partnership!

Yesterday in Sunday’s Forum, we learned about the impacts of recent immigration policies on Houston area community members. The implications of these changes are impacting our neighbors’ access to health care, decreased mental health, limited access to resources and social isolation.

There is much work to be done. How can you help?  Please consider joining us and learning more about DACA by texting DACA INFO to 787-57 to stay updated, access resources, and learn how to advocate alongside these students! You can also access great resources with guides, webinars and community information that can be printed and shared by clicking here. Together, we have the power to shape the future.

What to learn more? You are invited to join Global Refuge in the conversation with the Rev. Dr. Richard Rouse discussing his new book “A Journey Called Hope, Today’s Immigrant Stories and the American Dream” this coming Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at 6:00 p.m. (Central Time), by registering here.

Finally, we invite you to bring in your non-perishable protein items for the St. James Life Center (Spam, canned tuna and other fish, Vienna sausages, peanut butter, canned soups/meals with meat, i.e.: chili, beef ravioli, chicken noodle soup) for donation between now and June 5th.

Together, we are unified, in Christ Jesus. Let’s support our siblings in Christ, through these unsettling and challenging times.

Everyone will know that you are my disciples if you have love for one another. John 13:35

Peace and blessings,

Kim Williams
