Dear Beloved Christ the King Community,

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to bring good news to the poor." —Luke 4:18

This past Sunday at our Rice Village Campus, a profound moment of generosity unfolded as we gathered between services. Deacon Aimee Elles, Kim Williams, and Karli McGowen from the Festival Committee, presented a check for over $4,000 to Bill Mintz and Bill Chapman of our ministry partner organization Freewheels Houston, who graciously received the donation. This significant contribution, raised from our 2024 festival funds, underscores our commitment to living out the Gospel in tangible ways.

Freewheels Houston, which provides essential transportation to refugees, veterans, and those in need, reflects the freedom and support that Jesus encouraged. During my sermon, I emphasized the importance of expanding our outreach, stating, "Jesus goes on to explain to his hometown that his purpose is broader and wider, and it's time to put the focus on that expansion of who God claims as the poor and the captive, the outcast and the oppressed." This call to action resonates deeply with our efforts through this donation and our ongoing mission - one that we share with Freewheels.

Bill Mintz and Bill Chapman, both active members of our congregation and representatives of Freewheels, show dedication that is a beacon of the compassionate action we as CTK strive to foster every day. To continue this mission of service, I encourage our members to join in and volunteer at Freewheels. We meet every second Saturday of even-numbered months, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM, at 6020 Jessamine St. #204, Houston. Volunteers help repair bikes, learn new skills, and ensure recipients receive properly fitted bikes and helmets. It’s a wonderful opportunity to engage hands-on in our commitment to helping others. Please wear closed-toe shoes suitable for outdoor work and feel free to reach out to Bill Chapman for more details.

Thank you, Christ the King, for your unwavering support and vibrant spirit. May we continue to serve as bearers of God's love, always striving to fulfill the scriptures through our actions. Let us carry this momentum forward, embracing our mission to bring generous hope to those who need it most.
