Dear beloved Christ the King Community,
We are entering the season of Advent:
a season of waiting and preparing,
a time of self-examination,
an intentional space set aside to ponder what Jesus means for us in our daily lives and calling.
We have many opportunities throughout the month of December that will allow us to pause, to wait, to long, to reflect, and to discern. Please engage in these opportunities individually, with friends and family, and with God, resisting our culture's focus on busyness and consumption as we prepare for Christmas.
This year, we will be exploring themes each Wednesday that reflect on the weekend's scripture through music, art, Bible study and prayer, which include:
Our weekends are filled with opportunities to deepen our relationship with God, each other, and our broader community with activities such as: Advent wreath-making, Building Friendships with our Muslim Friends sharing Turkish Coffee and Christmas Cookies, Memorial Campus Tree Trimming and Brass Music, The Annual Creche Festival with the Theme: Unique and Unexpected, Bach Society Houston's Christmas Oratorio, Las Posadas, Our Virgin of Guadalupe Worship Service with St. James Lutheran Church, and Cookie Baking at Kids and Kin for our Homebound Members.
We also are in need of children and adults who are willing to serve in a variety of capacities during our many worship services this year. Would you consider helping us in one of these important roles? If so, please email our Executive Administrator, Cheryl Gaspard to be added onto our training list.
Explore our programming to decide what will be the most life-giving for you and those you love this Advent, and then prioritize, value, and savor these set-aside times for your own spiritual nourishment and growth.
I am so excited to spend this season of waiting with you!
Let us pray:
Wondrous God, cultivate in us a sense of awe and curiosity. Inspire us by your work in this world and in our lives. In the name of your Son, Jesus, for whom we wait expectantly.
Amen.
Grace and peace, and even more, hope,
Pastor Jennifer
