On Sunday, November 25 we finish the church year with the festival of Christ the King. The next week begins a new church year with the First Sunday of Advent, and therefore a new year of bible readings appointed for reading during Sunday worship. Each year, the calendar of readings has a distinctive flavor, featuring different books of the bible.
In this forum, we will consider the origins of our calendar of readings–the lectionary, the way this calendar is used by the churches around the globe, and how the coming year’s worth of readings is intended to be heard. We will also consider how this calendar can be used to shape personal devotions and prayer.
