German Scholar to present Reformation Lectures
The Melanchthon Institute presents the Patty Stone Memorial Lectureship on the Reformation by Professor Volker Leppin of the University of Tübingen (Germany). Professor Leppin will lecture on the "Roots of the Reformation" September 12-15.
Prof. Dr. Volker Leppin is Professor for church history at the department for Evangelical Lutheran Theology of the University of Tübingen. Dr. Leppin is a leading authority on the Reformation and Martin Luther and serves on the advisory committee of the Luther Decade. His biography of Luther, is to be translated and published soon by Eerdmann’s. He is a graduate of Heidelberg University and researches about the history of the Reformation and the biography of Martin Luther.
The lectures will cover the following topics.
Mysticism as Root of the Reformation
The Transformation of Medieval Theology in the Reformation
Writing Luther's Biography - Problems and Challenges
Each lecture will be offered twice in two series. The first series will be on September 12 (Saturday) at 11:00 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. in the parish hall. The second series will be on September 13 at 6:00 p.m. and on September 14 and 15 at 7:30 p.m. in the parish hall.
