The Story of Christianity Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. in the council room

The Roman Empire in the West has collapsed and ‘unorthodox’ Arian barbarians are everywhere. What will happen to the Christian Church? In the East a prophet has begun preaching a strict new monotheism and devout troops from Arabia are sweeping through Byzantine territory. What will happen to the Christian Church? Even if you missed last year’s study of the early church, join us as we study Medieval Christianity, the rise of Islam, the rise of the papacy (including those infamous Borgia popes), and the beginnings of the quest for reformation. Our text is Justo Gonzalez’ The Story of Christianity Vol. 1. Crusades, schisms, and corruption will shock us; cathedrals, saints (Francis, Catherine of Siena) and theologians (Thomas Aquinas) will challenge us. Class leader Kristine Wallace promises there will be no papers and no exams.
