Letter to the Congregation on COVID Changes at Christ the King Church

Dear Faithful People of Christ the King Church,

Grace and peace be with you.

Our congregational council and ministry staff previously planned a full menu of in-person and remote ministry opportunities to begin the coming weekend, August 28 and 29, the rise of COVID-19 infections makes it necessary for us to adapt those plans in order to keep our most vulnerable members and friends safe. What follows are the changes we are compelled to make to our plans through Sunday, September 12.

In-person server training scheduled for today (Wednesday, August 25, 7:00 – 8:30 p.m.) and Saturday, August 28, 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. will be held as planned.

In-person choir rehearsal and retreat scheduled for this Saturday, August 28 is cancelled. The choir will resume zoom rehearsals on Wednesday, September 1 at 7:00 p.m.

Our Rally Day Burger Cook out for this Sunday, August 29, is cancelled. However, we will gather at our 11:00 a.m. worship to bless our students, parents, and teachers for the upcoming year.

Our planned in-person 6:00 p.m. vespers for the care of creation on September 1 is cancelled and will be replaced by a Facebook Live vespers service led by Pastor Derr. (www.facebook.com/ctkelc)

Our 6:00 p.m. Saturday evening contemplative service of Holy Communion continues with this pattern: September 4, Holy Communion; September 11, prayer around the cross and Holy Communion; September 18, prayers for healing and Holy Communion; and September 25, Holy Communion.

On Sunday, September 5, we will begin offering a shortened 8:30 a.m. Holy Communion liturgy and continue our 11:00 a.m. liturgy. Our hope is that, with three Holy Communion liturgies each weekend, we can better maintain healthy social distancing norms.

Finally, this will be our schedule on Sunday, September 12:
8:30 a.m. – shortened service of Holy Communion.
9:30 a.m.- Godly Play open house (2 families at a time in each room)
Confirmation orientation
11:00 a.m. Holy Communion
12:15 p.m. congregation assembly to vote on MDLC merger into Christ the King Church

Sunday, September 19:
8:30 a.m. – shortened service of Holy Communion.
9:30 a.m.- Godly Play classes, (Virtual and Limited In-person), Confirmation classes, and High School Bible Study
11:00 a.m. Holy Communion
5:00 p.m. Ordination of Sergio Edson Rodriguez

Given the changing nature of the COVID pandemic, we believe this is as far ahead as we safely plan, adapting to this changing situation a still maintaining a level of consistency in our programming. We invite you to take part in the following weekday ministry offerings through the end of September:

Monday – Friday: 8:15 a.m. Daily Prayer at home. (During these times, which may or may not occur at 8:15 a.m. in each home, those listed on the extended prayer list are regularly prayed for.)
