Creation Care Retreat at Lutherhill, LaGrange, November 1 – 3
A free Creation Care Retreat took place Nov. 1 – 3, with joint sponsorship from Lutherhill and the synod Lutherans Restoring Creation Team ,chaired by CTK’s own Lisa Brenskelle. Cost was underwritten by a generous grant from the CTK Foundation as well as some funds remaining from an earlier grant from the Christ Lutheran Foundation in Brenham. The retreat was attended by 2 dozen people from 8 different parishes, including CTK. Ages ranged from pre-teens to 80’s, with all age groups in between represented as well.
The attendees took time to study God’s word to learn what it teaches us about God’s Creation, God’s relationship to His creation, and humanity’s place in the creation. Plenty of time was available to enjoy God’s good creation, with such activities as guided hikes, kayaking, the big swing, archery, and simply walking the labyrinth.
The group also engaged in a service project, spending two hours cleaning up outdoor worship spaces. An educational presentation by CTK’s Elmer Ledesma on the state of creation preceded a guided meditation on the history of the cosmos, followed by a lively brainstorming session on how we can better care for creation. Pastor Sue Beall presided over a creation-focused worship service which closed the retreat on Sunday morning.
