The Texas Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod will continue to march in the MLK Jr. Parade on Jan 17th. Members and friends of Christ the King Church who are attending or considering attending are strongly encouraged to wear well-fitting N95, KN95 or KN94 masks and follow COVID-19 health and safety measures. Contact Rebecca Shields email@example.com to find out where the Synod will meet for the parade and for more information.
The (ARC) Committee invites you to join us in celebrating the legacy of MLK Jr. for our three-Part Zoom study of MLK Jr.’s Letter from a Birmingham Jail (Jan 20, 27th and Feb 3rd) and two-Part Adult Forum (Feb 6th and 13th) on holidays and heritage in Black Communities.
Together with the Center for the Healing of Racism, join us in celebrating MLK Jr’s Birthday with a virtual event, Friday Jan 14th, 12 to 2.
As members of the ELCA, we believe that we are freed in Christ to serve and love our neighbor. God uses our voices, through our advocacy efforts, to restore and reconcile our world. To advocate regularly, sign up with ELCA Advocacy, or other partner organizations, to get occasional advocacy requests/opportunities by email (or check CTK’s Facebook regularly, where we post these requests):
AMMPARO is a mission of the ELCA to Accompany Migrant Minors with Protection, Advocacy, Representation and Opportunities.
As a congregation we are commited to support and advocate for compassionate immigration policies that affect migrants from Central America on Texas’ Southern Border as well as our neighbors in the Houston community.
Our June Mission Offering will support the Christ the King AMMPARO Committee’s activities. The committee reviews needs and resources on an ongoing basis. Recent initiatives include:
- Enhancing efforts by St. James Lutheran Church/Santiago Apòstol to provide financial and other assistance to immigrants often excluded from government programs, and
- Supplementing the Christ the King Lutheran Church Foundation’s 2021 grant that will provide funding for application fees for young people applying for protection under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. According to our partners at BakerRipley, there is a high need for financial support of these applicants and this is a very impactful way to donate
