Volunteer opportunities available with Freewheels Houston and Houston Refugee Consortium
For several years, Houston has welcomed more refugees than any other city in the United States, with thousands of men, women and children from all over the world resettling in the greater Houston area, rebuilding their lives and contributing to the community in many ways.
For that reason, we honor and celebrate their strength and perseverance on World Refugee Day, which will be celebrated on Saturday, June 17, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at Levy Park, 3801 Eastside—in the Upper Kirby District, south of Richmond between Kirby and Buffalo Speedway.
The event will feature musicians, dancers, a resource/artisan fair, and Houstonians will have the opportunity to taste food from refugee and immigrant owned restaurants. Bring the whole family to this fun, free, and educational event!
Freewheels Houston, a ministry of Christ the King Lutheran Church that provides bicycles to refugees so they can get to work and school, is recruiting volunteers to help raise awareness and promote upcoming activities. Please email if you want to help.
The Houston Refugee Consortium is recruiting volunteers as well to help make the event a success. Please visit worldrefugeedayhouston.org for details.
