The Border in Crisis and Houston Responds: Art Exhibit and Educational Forum

“The Power of Hope: Refugee Art Reflections,” a traveling art exhibit, will be presented at the Aurora Art Gallery. The Rev. Dr. Helen Boursier of San Antonio worked with mothers and children held at the Karnes Family Detention Center in 2015 -2016 and helped them explore—through art—the trauma that they suffered while in detention. Rev. Boursier will speak, and there will be a silent auction of donated works by local artists in support of Team Brownsville and the Interfaith Welcome Coalition (IWC) in San Antonio. Wine and cheese will be served.

Educational Forum:
Saturday, September 21, 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
at Faith Lutheran Church, 4600 Bellaire.
Keynote speaker: Hope Frye, immigration attorney from San Francisco and co-founder of Project Lifeline, will share what she has witnessed at detention centers, including Tornillo and Homestead, and her work seeking to implement the Flores Agreement which governs children being held in detention.
