Science and Religion

Christ the King Church has hosted monthly meetings of the Houston Science and Religion Discussion Group for a number of years. Originally founded by CTK member Daniel Johnson, the e-mail distribution list for HSRDG meeting announcements usually includes about 40-50 individuals, with regular meeting attendance, depending on the season and the topic, varying from eight to fifteen. Meetings are held on the third Monday of the month from 7:00 to 9:00 PM in the second floor Council room. They are generally structured to include 15 minutes of introductions and relaxing conversation, frequently with refreshments, followed by a formal presentation lasting about an hour. After the presentation, questions and answers are handled by the presenter of the topic, and related issues are discussed.

Presentations have often taken the form of book reviews, but they have included more general topics. Recent topics have included books by Karen Armstrong, Stephan Hawking and Johan Elverskog. Previous topics include Causation, Buddhism and Islam, Barbarism, Darwin, and theology. Visitors are always welcome!
