THIS SATURDAY, March 28 from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m.
In support of Christian Community Service Center (CCSC), Christ the King will hold a “drive-thru” food drive this Saturday in the back parking lot from 2:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Of course, social distancing and good hygiene will be practiced. Please help with whatever you can provide, including the following which will help the most:
- Hearty soups (with meat or beans)
- Canned tuna
- Canned chicken
- Boxed dry cereal
- Canned vegetables (all types)
- Canned fruit (all types)
- Cleaning wipes
- Toilet paper
- Bar soap
- Baby wipes/diapers (sizes 4, 5 and 6)
During this national COVID-19 crisis and its resulting economic impact, more people than ever need the emergency services that CCSC provides. CCSC is practicing social distancing and good hygiene in their food pantries (deemed essential services), and the staff and volunteers are all in for how vital CCSC’s work is right now. Last week CCSC distributed over 400 food packages; in comparison, approximately 600 were distributed for the entire month of February.
Please take a moment to donate funds through CCSC’s secure website www.ccschouston.org/donations/ or purchase items from CCSC’s Amazon Wish List. Likewise, CCSC is designated as our March mission offering.
You can also donate here by designating to “CCSC”.
The Houston Food Bank can use the volunteers as people start to self-quarantine and groups start to pull back (AARP and Harris County Jail among those who will be understandably reducing numbers amid the virus concerns).
It’s definitely a time of need, as the Houston Food Bank’s website said their daily food distribution has doubled to 800,000 pounds a day from 400,000 pounds a day.
Of course, please be careful when making decisions about going out, and we certainly do not want anyone to feel pressured to do anything they’re not comfortable doing.
The Houston Food Bank runs Saturday shifts from 8 a.m. to noon and from noon to 4 p.m. They also do a Sunday shift from 9 a.m. to noon. Additionally, the food pantry (now converted to drive-through service) will operate on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The Houston Food Bank has rolled out several processes to maintain health at the facility (consistent washing of surface areas, frequent breaks for handwashing, social distancing, monitoring volunteers with coughs, etc.).
Gather in the courtyard after both services and write letters. Sample letters and writing materials will be provided.
There is enough … More than enough
On Bread for the World Sunday, we join others in offering prayers for those who suffer from hunger in our own country and abroad – and for our decision makers who can change the policies and conditions that allow hunger to persist. Continue reading
